Meeting
Barbara changed my life forever. Keep in mind, up to that point,
I had never written a poem or dreamed that I had any talent for
writing. Because of her encouragement, I went on to earn my Master's
Degree in literature. I retired from teaching full time, followed
her example of being a poet-in-the schools, attended her Writer's
Summer Workshop in France, traveled to take workshops from other
poets in various parts of the country. In short, Barbara taught
me how to create a successful writing life.
Where many well-known poets are competitive and stingy with their
trade secrets, Barbara is generous and all-inclusive. Doctors and
secretaries, young and old, she brings us together and introduces
us to every writing process she discovers.
Sondra
Upham is a poet, workshop member, and poet-in-the-schools. Her poems
have appeared in many journals, including Field, Prairie
Schooner, The New Virginia Review, and Phoebe.
Her chapbook, Freight, was the winner of the 2000 Slapering
Hol Press Chapbook Competition.

Barbara
Hyett has been one of the most outstanding artists participating in
the Artists-In-Residence Program, funded by the Massachusetts Council
on the Arts and Humanities. Her passion and skill in teaching is remarkable
and widely known. Everywhere I go, from the Museum of Fine Arts to
the homes of friends, I hear enthusiastic testimony of Barbara's talent
in bringing poetry to people through teaching and reading.
Anne Hawley, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Council on the
Arts and

The
evaluations of Barbara's Teachers-as-Scholars seminars are effusive
declarations of pleasure and appreciation; they are the most glowing
evaluations I have ever read.
