FULL-TIME SCHEDULE AND FEES

For full-time participants, the fee for 12 sessions is $725. There are four sessions from which to choose: Tuesday mornings, Tuesday evenings, Thursday mornings, and Thursday evenings.

HALF-TIME SCHEDULE AND FEES

For a program of six alternating weeks, you may select either of the four TRUTH or four BEAUTY schedules for a fee of $420. No substitutions or "make-ups" will be allowed for half-time students. If you need to cancel or miss a particular day included in your schedule, there is no substitution option.

"BRING A FRIEND" PROGRAM

if a registered participant brings a friend to a single class, and the friend signs up for a semester term, PoemWorks will pay the registered participant a finders fee of $100. And if you bring 10, imagine how far you can go!

 

"VISITING POET" PROGRAM

Any current or former Workshop member is welcome to attend any individual workshop session on a space-available basis. The fee is $100 per session, and must be scheduled in advance by contacting Barbara directly. One week notice is required.

 

INDIVIDUAL WORK WITH BARBARA

Individual sessions with Barbara (such as working on manuscript completion or readying work for publication) may be scheduled by contacting Barbara directly. The fee is $100 per hour.

Since 1984, prize-winning poet Barbara Helfgott Hyett, has conducted PoemWorks Workshops in the Boston area.


Each workshop session is a gathering of poets who each bring work to the table for reading and critique. Each weekly session provides intensive critical analysis in a supportive atmosphere as poets work towards finely-honed, completed poems.

Boston poet Barbara Helfgott Hyett returns to 26 Split Rock Cove for the 4th Annual Poetry of Place weekend

Maximum 12 students.

The weekend includes:

·       Friday afternoon at 5 pm for dinner and and evening of writing exercises

·       Saturday morning class from 9 – 11:30 am of generative writing towards a new poem

·       Saturday afternoon workshop for newly created poems

·       Sunday morning crafting exercises and re-writes

·       Sunday afternoon poetry reading

Also included:

·       Friday dinner, two breakfasts and two lunches

·       Lodging at the Blue Lupine Friday and Saturday nights; private or shared rooms with private baths.  The Blue Lupine is a 10 minute walk from 26 Split Rock Cove

·       Free time on Saturday afternoon for writing, walking along the coast, or other adventures

·       Added option:  lodging at the Blue Lupine on Sunday night for $45 / person, including breakfast

 

Cost:  $475 including lodging;

or $325 without lodging

Poet, professor and public lecturer, Barbara Helfgott Hyett has published five collections of poetry:  In Evidence: Poems of the Liberation of Nazi Concentration Camps, based on her interviews with U.S. GI's, and selectedBooklist's "Editor's Choice"; Natural Law, was first in the Salt River poetry series; The Double Reckoning ofChristopher Columbus, an epic poem on the 1492 voyage of the Columbian expedition, was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. The Tracks We Leave: Poems on Endangered Wildlife of North America, and Rift   have been widely reviewed. Other poems and essays have appeared in such journals as The New Republic, TheNation, Hudson Review, Massachusetts Review, Agni, Ploughshares, Prairie Schooner, The Women'sReview ofBooks, and in over fortyanthologies. She is currently the director of PoemWorks, The Workshop for Publishing Poets, in Chestnut Hill, MA, named “One of the Best Workshops in Boston” by the Boston Globe.

Barbara Helfgott Hyett is the author of In Evidence: Poems of the Liberation of Nazi Concentration Camps, Natural Law, The Double Reckoning of Christopher Columbus, and The Tracks We Leave: Poems on Endangered Wildlife, and most recently, Rift, from the University of Arkansas Press. Her poems have appeared in dozens of magazines including The Nation, The New Republic, and The Partisan Review. A professor, editor, and poet-in-the-schools, she has taught Literature and Writing at MIT and Boston University, where she won the Sproat Award for Excellence in Teaching English. Barbara Helfgott Hyett has been Visiting Scholar at Harvard and Tufts, and is recipient of a 2010 Father Thomas Arts Fellowship for Poetry awarded by the Boston Foundation.
