Allen West
Allen West was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and now lives in Lexington. A retired professor of chemistry, he started writing poetry in 1983. His poems have appeared in many journals including Passager, The Comstock Review, Concrete Wolf, RHINO, and Salamander. He was a runner-up for the Grolier Poetry Prize in 1992, and his chapbook, The Time of Ripe Figs, won the 2001 White Eagle Coffee Store Press competition. His full-length book, Beirut Again, was recently published by Off the Grid Press.
