Workshop in France - Summer 2012

This year we are inviting you to join a special group on our voyage to the village of Montolieu in the south of France, where we will be holding our newly themed Writing Out of Place, a week of intensive poetry and prose classes and workshops.

We are very excited about our 2012 expedition. Not only will there be hours dedicated to writing, but we are also planning a series of excursions. In addition to our local field trips and picnics at places like the chapel on St. Roch, the paper mill in Brousse, or dinner at the source of the Canal du Midi up in La Montaigne Noir, and our daily "Walk & Write" outings to the beautiful cemetery of Montolieu, the local wine cave converted to art museum, the cathedral sized church in the town's center, and the neighboring village's vide grenier (fantastic french flea market), we will also organize day trips to the Languedoc's city of Albi, home of Toulouse-Lautrec and a World Heritage Site; to the vibrant open air market in the medieval city of Carcassonne, and a "balade" as they say in French—a barge trip floating down the lovely and historically important Canal du Midi under the sycamore trees.

If you have been with us before, you know how delightful, productive and refreshing our Montolieu adventure is. If you have not yet experienced our writing workshop in France, we can assure you that no one has yet been disappointed. Not only is this an opportunity to be in a unique village—hosting a combination of traditional, French village life and a thriving community of second-hand book shops and dealers, but it is also an opportunity to dedicate yourself to the writing life: observing, noting, discussing. You will have time and prompts for generating new material, and within the structure of the workshop, you will also receive feedback to help carefully and rigorously edit your work. Many of our writers end up with published books that come from this trip.

And to top it all off, our sleeping and eating arrangements are divine. We are fed and cared for by dear and gifted hosts and lodged in an impressive, historic building, surrounded by grounds for roaming and two rivers that wrap around the picturesque village of Montolieu.

We are looking forward to having a fantastic group of writers, adventurers—wonderful ones—this year. We hope you will be able to join us!

Price & Payment Schedule:

The price remains the same: $1,975.

First (non-refundable) deposit of $350 is requested by January 17, 2012.
Second deposit of $350 is requested by March 15, 2012.
Final Balance is due by June 1, 2012.

Class Size:

The workshop size is kept small and never exceeds 12 participants.

Inclusive Package:

In addition to class time, the package also includes 8 nights bed and breakfast, 6 nights of three-course meals with wine, 5 picnic lunches, and daily excursions. Lodging is at the la Manufacture Royale.
